Most upholstered furniture has a built-in safety net. If a sofa cushion comes back slightly off, it can be adjusted, remade, or in the worst case, the piece can be swapped out. A built-in banquette doesn't offer that same margin. The millwork is already in the wall. The bench is already framed. If the cushion doesn't fit exactly, there's no returning the piece and starting over. There's only a redo, on the client's timeline, with the client watching.
